Connections in the MS–3/11/24

Monday, March 11, 2024

Dear MS Families,

We have been appreciating all the amazing events and activities that are a part of our lives as St. Mary’s Titans.  Throughout the day students are engaged in carefully planned instruction.  And after regular school hours there are even more opportunities for our students to shine in athletics, fine arts, VEX robotics, and so much more.

St. Mary’s MS students had a great showing for Math Field Day held at Zama last week.  According to their coach, Mr. Shircliff, all 14 of our participants did an excellent job representing St. Mary’s.

Student Led Conferences will be on campus this Friday, March 15th.  This meeting is structured a little differently from the Parent Teacher Conferences last November.  Students have been working to organize a presentation of their learning and will take the lead in the 15 minute conference involving parents and their homeroom teacher.  Parents will have the opportunity to ask questions.  In addition, as previously shared, teachers of visual arts, DT, music, PE/health, media literacy, and world language will be available on a first come basis in their regular classroom or office (other than Mr. Goldie in the weight room G202 and Mr. Jones in the MS art room with Ms. Ramos-Virley) during the following times:

  • 9:15-10:15am
  • 10:30-11:30am
  • 12:15-1:15pm
  • 1:30-2:30pm

Bookings for SLCs are through SchoolsBuddy and close on Wednesday, March 13th at 5pm.

Students who want or need extra attention for their best learning have always been able to arrange additional time with their teachers.  From last week we formalized Academic Intervention for students who are not meeting the requirements in their classes.  This schedule shows times that teachers are available for drop in assistance.  Other times can be arranged with teachers as needed.

Who should attend?

  • Students who received a 1 or 2 on their Semester 1 Report Card.
  • Students who want to clarify something from class.
  • Students who are told by their teacher to attend.

Academic Intervention can take precedence over a practice or meeting.  Students should check with their teacher.  Students will use this attendance form when they go to Academic Intervention sessions.

Registration for St. Mary’s Summer School 2024 is open.  While many courses are full, there are still some great choices if you are looking for safe and fun learning options for June 10-28.  For more information, see our website.

Remember that the week of March 18-22 is our spring break.  We trust that you will enjoy a change of routine to recharge and reconnect.  We will then move into a good stretch of learning ahead to finish quarter 3 strong and begin quarter 4.

Some reminders for the next couple of weeks:

  • Grade 6 trip to Hiroshima March 27-28.
  • Quarter 3 ends Thursday, March 28th.
  • No school on Good Friday, March 29th.

Thank you for partnering with the MS.

Kind regards,

Colleen Ashmore and Andrew Cubitt
